Personal Finances

Personal finances are not always just about the home. They can be for other personal activities, separate from the home finances. Even if it is not business finances we are doing, they are still very important, not just for saving money, but to make it successfully in all aspects of life.

Being able to have a budget is important for personal life for a few reasons. One reason may be that you have children that you would like to help pay for college when they are older. Having a budget now will allow you to save money for this and other future events.

Your personal finances can be for single individuals, married couples, and young adults just learning how to live on their own and manage their own money. It is especially important for a young adult to learn about this as early as possible. In high school, some classes teach the basics about this, but in the first year of college, there will be quite of few of the first classes that will point young folks in the right direction, no matter what your major is. There will be major courses required in college that you may think do not have to do with what you are majoring in, but if you can keep an open mind and take whatever classes come your way, you will learn a lot and see that they do have a lot more to do with what your major is than you thought. Even in personal affairs with money, learning some business techniques can help you a lot.

Sometimes, with personal finances, people find that they are falling into debt and are unable to save money or pay their monthly bills. This is a good time to contact a credit counseling agency. When you go to meet with a credit counselor, they will help you figure out a budget and how to pay your debts. They will look at your credit report and see what is there. If any of the information on there is in error, you should have this fixed as soon as possible. The agency may help you with that. If not, you can go to the three credit reporting agency’s web sites and request the changes on your credit report. The counseling agency will give you this information while you meet with them, as well, with phone numbers to call. When you go to meet with a credit counselor, bring proof of income and expenses, all expenses, even if it is for cigarettes. They will not lecture you. They need to see where all your money goes to so that they can help you better, and if you are honest, honesty goes a long way. If you are beginning to fall into debt or are seriously in debt, this can affect your budget tremendously. You will always struggle to pay bills and you won’t be able to save any money for your future. Going to seek help with this will benefit you in more ways than one. Not only will your debts be taken care of, you will be paying each creditor a lot less money each month than you are now. Sure, someone can file bankruptcy if their debt is large enough, but this is a decision that should be thought about very thoroughly. If you file bankruptcy, you will be free of debt, but your credit will take at least 3 years to repair itself and you will not be able to get any type of loan for this amount of time. In some cases, the credit score will stay low for longer than three years. There are ways to fix this if you choose to resolve your finance issues with bankruptcy, but I would think long and hard about that decision. If it was me, I would do the credit counseling and the classes they may send you to. This way, your credit repairs a lot faster and you are debt free in an easier softer way. You will be able to manage your money even better, too, and save money in the bank. This financial decision will reward you in ways that will make you feel very glad that you went that route.
